Fur Babies vs. Real Babies

All of my life I have had fur babies...particularly cats! Now that we are discussing real babies, I often wonder how the two species will co-mingle. Currently we are the proud parents of two fur baby cats. They are male indoor felines and have never ever been apart from each other since birth. They are roughly 4 years of age and hopefully will be a part of our family for quite a while. They have completely different personalities as well, which of course makes the world go round. G is extremely laid back, loves to sit in windows and absolutely loves people. I swear, if anyone ever tried to break into our house, G would give them the grand tour! K on the other hand is not as laid back as his brother. K is very territorial and possessive, skittish around strangers and runs away at the drop of a hat. I am a true believer that K is a "mama's boy"! He loves me to death and if G is ever sitting or laying with me, K would only have to give G a look and it is just known that G's time is now up! It must be a predetermined hierarchy amongst animals, but it is absolutely amazing to see!

With that being said, we are planning on having real babies very soon! Christopher if it's a boy and Megan if it's a girl. If God decides to bless us with multiples, we will have to revisit more boy/girl names. With K being so territorial, real babies are starting to get me nervous. I know many people have mastered this issue in the past and present and I often wonder how they did it? I envision K clawing the babies eyes out or sitting on top of it when its sleeping. Horrible, I know....but knowing my fur baby as I do, that's what I envision. I hope that K will be so skittish and run away from the baby, but there is always that expression"curiosity killed the cat" that makes me wonder what will happen during the night hours. I know we have plenty of time to think about how to handle the situation when it arises, but these are the things that invade my mind sporadically throughout the day.
