It was very new to us...but basically what it is is a contraption that really resembles a bong (just for the record, a hookah is totally legal!), with water in the base of it and a pipe that stems from the side with tobacco burning from the top. The tobacco that you smoke from it is infused with flavors, such as watermelon, grape, strawberry, etc. Another thing that I learned from the hookah is that there is no nicotine in this particular tobacco, so no addiction! Hookah smoking stems from the Middle East and apparently we have hookah venues right here in RI!! There is one located on Federal Hill, called Nara. Below is a picture from their VIP lounge, with one hell of a hookah in the middle.
